Pretty obvious thing to say about a scooter, right? Yet here we are...

ONE FOR ALL

We have come to a point where we are thrilled for the launch of a 'family-oriented' (electric) scooter. Weren't scooters always supposed to be for the family? But then again, we live in an era where scooters even come bearing an 'ADV' badge. However, spending some time with the new Ather Rizta made me realise why the young company made such a big deal around a scooter that does... well, scooter stuff.

imageAnd the Rizta story is incomplete without the 450X - the first product from a new company that showed the potential of an electric powertrain to the masses and shaped the company's identity... the identity that it had to distance itself from to make the Rizta. This time there is no sharp, edgy design but a more industrial, almost-generic one. Is it bland? No. But more importantly, does it look like an Ather? Unfortunately, no. But maybe, it had to look this way. I mean, this is a design that wouldn't be 'too much' for the golden-agers nor too drab for Gen-z.

HISTORY CHANNEL

When I'm around old motorcycles, I often find myself wondering what it must've been like to be born in an earlier time. Wondering, mind you, not wishing. I wonder what it was like when mankind invented the motorcycle. I wouldn't want to get anywhere near the first motorcycle, the Daimler Reitwagen (the word means 'riding car', stupidly enough), made by German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1885. To quote Melissa Holbrook Pierson, 'The first motorcycle looks like an instrument of torture.' And something that might cause an explosion uncomfortably close to one's nether regions. Right after it's shaken loose every healed bone in one's body.
