IN INDIA'S QUEST FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE AND GREENER FUTURE, THE NATION IS AT A CRITICAL JUNCTURE IN RESHAPING ITS HEAVY-DUTY TRANSPORTATION SECTOR
CHANGING THE FACE OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES IN INDIA: THE TRANSITION TO LNG AS A GREEN FUEL

Considering the environmental repercussions of traditional fuels, India is contemplating whether Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) could be the transformative force in commercial vehicle transportation. As industrial and urban expansion propel a surge in transportation needs, particularly in the commercial sphere, concerrs regarding air quality and carbon emissions have escalated. To tackle these issues, there's a growing push towards cleaner alternatives.

Against this backdrop, LNG emerges as a promising remedy, presenting a cleaner and more sustainable choice for commercial vehicles. Its reduced emission of pollutants and greenhouse gases in contrast to diesel aligns with India's pledge to diminish its carbon footprint and combat the consequences of climate change.

LNG AS A STRATEGIC OPTION FOR LONG-HAUL TRANSPORTATION

In the current scenario, achieving zero emissions by 2070 is a top priority for India, as highlighted in COP 28. The country's transportation sector accounts for about 13-15 percent of India's total CO2 emissions. Since long-distance trucking within this sector accounts for 35-40 percent of total road emissions, this segment must directly be addressed in any national climate change policy.

The environmental effects of conventional fuels are a problem for India, especially in the heavy-duty transportation industry.
