For decades, India has been known as a small-car nation — the land of the 800s and Altos — but here I was, cruising through British roads in a car designed, engineered, and built in India, and now being exported to over 100 countries, starting with the UK itself.

The world’s biggest small-car manufacturer has decided to go electric with its first offering, the Maruti Suzuki eVitara — a compact SUV that isn’t merely another electric car but a turning point in India’s automotive story. Suzuki might have been late to the global EV game, but when it arrives, it arrives with India in tow. The eVitara marks a moment of pride for Indian engineering on the world stage.
