The latest Bicester Scramble was the best ever, I reckon. The world's most welcoming venue was packed with interesting cars – a perfect mixture of new arrivals and old friends. Come to think of it, most of the car events I've attended in 2025 – from Warwickshire's Race Retro to the uplifting Goodwood Members' Meeting, a joyous Festival of the Unexceptional and a whole crop of friendly events at Prescott, my home track – have set new standards. Decent summer weather (leaving out the Watergate Bay Sprint last month) has helped, but it does strike me that event organisers today get ever better at anticipating what we punters like. Perhaps the density of the competition is another factor: some weekends there are three or four enticing places the Steering Committee and I could go. But that doesn't stop us regretting that the season is over and looking forward to 2026.
