BSA's Gold Star 650 has arrived in the Indian market with a starting price of Rs 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It takes a single-minded approach to retro looks, performance and cylinders. Does it have what it takes to be your garage's premier modern classic motorcycle?

Old School Charm

Every year, we have a whole boatload of launches, drives and rides. There's a lot to look forward to and it can be both fun and hectic, at the same time. However, there some motorcycles keep me up the night before I'm supposed to take them out for a ride, just because of the sheer anticipation. The BSA Gold Star 650 was definitely one of them. Although the motorcycle is completely new, the brand isn't. BSA, an abbreviation for Birmingham Small Arms, was founded in 1861, set up its motorcycle department in 1903, and had the first one ready by 1910. As a brand, BSA has a vibrant history and this new Gold Star 650 has a lot to live up to. So, does it? Before we get to the juciy bits, let's first review the numbers and important mechanical aspects of this new old-school motorcycle.

imageA 320mm disc handles the front braking duties, while the front wheel is an 18-inch unit with a 100 section 90 profile. The 36wire tube-type spoke wheels look the classy but would be quite a pain in the event of a puncture. The rear wheel is a 17-inch unit with a 150 section and 70 profile. BSA has made use of Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres, which feel offer good grip on the go.
