Lotus makes India entry
Auto Today
|November 2023
The iconic British sportscar maker has officially commenced its operations in India and launched its first product here in the form of the Eletre electric SUV
-
With every passing moment, India is becoming a more lucrative auto market and the biggest indicator of this is a new luxury brand stepping foot here and the latest to do so is Lotus Cars. The brand which faced financial issues throughout the last decade was bought by Chinese giant Geely in 2017 and has found new life with a three-model lineup in its arsenal, out of which its brought the one which has the highest chances of success in India the Eletre electric SUV. This is based on Lotus' dedicated EV platform, which is related to Geely's platform which underpins models from Zeekr and Polestar.
Calling the Eletre an SUV is subjective, as it has a four-door coupe silhouette, low and sharp and by no means carries a butch appeal as with most SUVs. The car showcased at the launch event was the Eletre R - the top-spec variant with a number of performance-oriented upgrades compared to the standard and S variants.
