UNLESS you keep a close eye on Spanish traffic laws, you might think a V16 is just a very large engine. But since the beginning of 2026, all Spanish-registered vehicles have been required to carry a device called a V16 Beacon. This replaces emergency warning triangles with a high-tech, GPS-connected flashing light.

The theory is that drivers will not have to go to the boot and walk down a dark road to set up a reflective triangle. The beacon has to be kept inside the car so it can be grabbed quickly, turned on and attached to the roof just by winding down the window.
