FRAMING NATURE AS LIVING ART

October 2025

Architecture + Design

Holding its own amidst the grandeur of Koramangala's most exclusive street “Billionaires’ Lane”, The Gallery House designed by Balan & Nambisan Architects is a canvas for observation and serenity. Transforming gardens into living exhibits and views into composed moments, it strikes a thought provoking dialogue between the built form and the landscape

FRAMING NATURE AS LIVING ART

Personalised Engineered Creativity. These three profound words describe the design ethos followed by Balan and Nambisan Architects-a multidisciplinary design studio founded by Arun Balan, Arjun Nambisan, and Nilanjana Roy. The implementation of this philosophy is embodied in The Gallery House, a residence that deliberately avoids ostentation and trades it for a quieter assertion of luxury that is rooted in context and natural environments. Drawing its name from its defining strategy, this home frames green spaces as living exhibits and seeks inspiration from the homeowner's art connoisseurship. "From the moment of entry to the most intimate spaces of the home, views are composed, framed, and layeredwhether through full-height glazing, the reflective qualities of mirrored surfaces, or through thresholds that blur the line between the interior spaces and the exterior landscapes," shares Arun. What began as a single plot evolved with the acquisition of an adjacent garden, preserving three mature trees as anchors and expanding the design into a seamless bridge between architecture and landscape.

VIEWS AS ARCHITECTURE

Every view in The Gallery House is carefully thought out and feels intentional. In one room, the koi pond becomes a painting hovering at eye level. In another, a splash of green appears precisely where your gaze naturally falls. These moments are not merely coincidences. They are the outcome of measured alignments and apertures—a collaboration between architecture, nature, and what might be called the interior eye.
