The first thing that strikes the eye is a crocodile. Gilded in gold, studded with stones, Haas Pedro (yes, it has a name!) sits on the front shelf at L'objet's newest outpost in New Delhi.

DESIGNER ELAD YIFRACH OPENS L'OBJET IN NEW DELHI, BRINGING CLASSIC CRAFTSMANSHIP AND ARTIST COLLABORATIONS TO INDIA.

The limited-edition piece, made using 16 moulds blended in a seamless form, can be used to store trinkets, to serve snacks or just to gaze at in wonderment. In many ways, Pedro symbolises L'objet—it is whimsical, it is a conversation starter and, above all, it is a great piece of workmanship.

Known worldwide for its impeccable craftsmanship, diverse materiality and collaborations with top artists, L'objet opened doors to its India flagship in May—only the fourth in the world, after New York, London and Paris. The founder, Elad Yifrach, says he manifested it. “As someone who has been visiting India for years, I know the country’s inherent appreciation of craftsmanship and I felt the market would truly understand our work. So, I grabbed the opportunity to open this store in partnership with Samir Modi, who is also a long-time patron,” explains Yifrach.
