'We had to start again'

A combination returns from a two-year hiatus to reclaim area trial victory and a rider earns her first HOYS ticket

JENNA PALMER-EVANS and Ilord revisited their 2022 victory at this show, reclaiming the area trial after a two-year hiatus from the ring.

It was a feature class with some surprising plot twists. Just one first-round clear, from Helen Tredwell and Luikan, was among the five through to the jump-off, but she chalked up both a rail down and a time penalty in the concluding phase.

Jenna had carried through four faults but went on to deliver a well-paced clear that was enough to take the top spot. Adrian Speight, who had two down in the first round with Lizzy D’Alme CZ, went on to jump a clear for third.
