“No gate is too big” for this veteran hunt horse, who is king of the yard and “does what he wants to” – as long as it doesn't involve pigs
-
TYRONE took himself to the Wilton. He was bought from the Beaufort in 2016 to be the huntsman's horse after he proved much too keen for the field: “As soon as he's in front with hounds, he is happy,” says Guy Loader, the fifth Wilton huntsman to ride him across the rolling Dorset countryside, having taken up the horn in 2023.
“He was unsure when he first saw them, but now he loves, loves, loves them!”
Jumping is the little bay's forte: “We think he was bred to showjump and it’s best to leave him to it when jumping out hunting, he knows what he’s doing,” says Guy.
“We were told when he arrived that if you were knee-deep in mud and there was a hedge looming, this horse is the one to help. He would jump a Range Rover for you if you asked; no gate is too big and no ditch too wide.”
