H&H's editors highlight this season's moments, events and horses to celebrate in their sports – plus a few shocks we really didn't see coming

Highs, lows and glory days

ROS CANTER'S Badminton and Burghley double on Lordships Graffalo was a huge moment. He is the first horse to win both events twice. Ros’s pregnancy meant Burghley was a particularly brave performance from a rider with total trust in her horse and their rock solid partnership.

Scone Palace stepped into the gap left by the loss of Blair Castle with aplomb, with 27,500 spectators attending in total. The event is confirmed until 2031, giving the team scope to build.

Bubby Upton scored a milestone Bramham win with Its Cooley Time. At 26, she was the youngest winner of this class in 25 years, showing just how hard it is to break into the top ranks of Britain's eventing scene.

Izzy led the young riders to team bronze, Ella Howard scooped junior individual gold, and Annabel Ridgway claimed pony individual bronze and spearheaded the team silver.

Laura Collett's individual gold at the Blenheim European Championships was her first senior title, after five previous championships on London 52 and coming so close at Paris 2024. Laura scored 25 wins this year, which is more than any other rider on the British eventing circuit.

Halo! We've loved watching this sparkly stallion this year and, with rider Piggy March, he’s won two CCI4*-Ss, at Burgham and the inaugural class at this level at Belsay. It didn’t quite work out for Piggy and Halo at the Europeans, but we look forward to seeing more of them.

Artist's lead after both the first two phases at Maryland five-star under Monica Spencer and their eventual second place was a marker for thoroughbreds in eventing. The 20-year-old thoroughbred Willingapark Clifford also won his fourth Adelaide CCI5* title under Hazel Shannon.
