THE Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) is reporting mixed fortunes for the UK’s native equines as the charity keeps a “close watch” on the impact of squeezed finances.
The new RBST watchlist highlights Eriskay ponies and the Suffolk horse as in need of “urgent support”. There were three Eriskay foals registered in 2022 and fewer Suffolk stallions are siring foals.
There is better news for Dartmoor, New Forest and Exmoor ponies, Hackneys and Cleveland Bays.
