SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Rian Corcoran made the most of his 5lb claim when taking mixed open honours aboard Itacare for trainer Liam Corcoran and owners Somerset Racing. This seven-year-old, who was previously in training with David Pipe, has enjoyed a fruitful season between the flags, with this marking his third victory from five starts.
“Itacare was ready to run a few weeks ago, but the weather put paid to things with abandonments,” explained Liam, Rian’s father. “So we thought we’d take our chance in an open and he did it well.”
Rian, who comes from a horsey background, “didn’t show an interest in riding” until three years ago, according to Liam.
“Suddenly took an interest in it and has never missed a day since. He works for Will Biddick and has his sights firmly set on a career as a jockey,” continued Liam.
Trainer Harry Ryall and jockey Rob David teamed up once again to bring Another Furlough’s tally to three wins from four starts this season when taking the conditions (level three) for The Empire Racing Partnership.
