Mending The Broken Bonds
Woman's Era
|May 2024
A journey to rebuilding trust and love in a marriage.
How do I rebuild my marriage after infidelity is one common question that pops up frequently in recent times on knowledge-sharing platforms and relationship counselling portals. The divorce rate in India, although globally low, has witnessed a rise in the past few years. Infidelity in marriage can jolt the entire family and shatter it; it's one of the leading causes of divorce. If you are looking forward to mending a broken relationship due to infidelity, then this write-up is for you.
Is Social media the culprit?
The response to the causes of infidelity from even a layman would be social media. In an Indian society ingrained in culture and tradition, infidelity is seen as a social stigma and a major transgression. Social networking provides instant connectivity without any barriers with people having the same interest. A study has revealed that people who don't use social media are 11 per cent happier than those who regularly use it. The Madras High Court has termed extramarital relationships as a "dangerous social evil"; it has also recommended the Union ministry of family welfare to appoint an expert committee to study the reasons for the surge in extramarital affairs and provide solutions to it. It is said that social media adds fuel to the fire of infidelity. Whatever the reason, social media is not always to be blamed, as a person inclined or vulnerable to cheating is more prone to it than those who exercise caution in using it.
Causes of Infidelity
A study reveals the eight major causes for infidelity:
• Anger
• Low self-esteem Lack of love
• Low commitment
• Need for variety
• Sexual desire
