'Country music is in our blood!

Rex, Ashleigh and Brett are keeping a rich Tamworth tradition alive

Shleigh Dallas’ grandad Rex sheds a tear every time he hears his famous granddaughter sing, because he’s just so damn proud that she’s followed in his and her dad Brett’s footsteps with her beautiful music.

“I’ve had a full life and I’m proud of what I’ve done, and I’m proud of all my family,” says Rex, 84, who will make a return to the stage at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in a history-making performance.

The famous yodeller will belt out some tunes with Ashleigh, supported by her brother Lindsay, 36, who plays bass guitar in her band and their dad Brett, 59, also on guitar. Even Ashleigh’s three-year-old daughter Harriet may make an appearance.

“We're the only family to have three generations to hold Golden Guitar Awards in Aussie history. To think our little family unit has achieved that is very inspiring and it keeps the fuel lit,”” Ashleigh tells Woman’s Day.

“I’m reminded daily of where my love of music came from watching Harriet, who sings any chance she gets. It takes me back to that little kid in myself and being proud of what I’m doing.”
