Eraina's Good Life
Bronze Magazine
|October 2019
With every transition in life, one has to go through obstacles.
Eraina Ferguson's challenges were definitely not easy the moment she gave birth to her special needs daughter, Taylor, who is deaf and autistic. Ferguson’s parents were retired and moved away and she did not have many family surrounding her. Her grandmother refused to coddle her and gave her the space that was needed to grow. With a one way ticket, her daughter and $1,000 to her name, she decided to move to New York. Having accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior on June 30, 2002 at Living Word Christian Center, Ferguson came to the realization that by putting God first, she could conquer anything. She attended weekly bible study and time alone with the heavenly father for a whole year. “God has been my navigation system,'' she says.

Healthy Root Dolls
Healthy Roots Dolls is an inspirational movement designed to help young women of color love their curly hair the way that it is and to ultimately love themselves. "I never had a doll that looked like me growing up, and the one time my parents gave me a black doll, I instantly started crying because to me, it wasn't a pretty one," confessed founder and creator Yelista Jean-Charles. "I was often shown that the standard of beauty was long straight hair and light skin."
