THERE were some whispers, mild murmurs and plenty opinions on whether December-January 2018 saw the lowest tourist turnout in Goa over the last few years.

Suggestions For A Stronger Brand Goa

The jury is out on that and one will not be able to conclude for sure until the official figures are released. However, there are many opinions that travellers, locals and expats, all with some kind of a connection to Goa, have voiced on areas that require urgent attention to ensure Goa’s popularity as one of the world’s most sought after beach destinations does not dwindle.

Everyone who cares for Goa seems to agree that the game needs to be ramped up to attract tourists who have swayed towards other Asian destinations that are seen to provide better value like Thailand, Bali and Sri Lanka.

A strong vision for improving Brand Goa’s image along with sweeping infrastructural changes are needed to turn the tide.

Sapna Shahani spoke to some locals, long-term residents and visitors who shared a bunch of suggestions to give Brand Goa a new spin altogether.

Vijaya Pais, Founder, Offbeat Goa portal, feels that the state should be projected internationally as a healing hub. The land itself has been beckoning people from all over the world for years, for all sorts of healing. The relatively clean air, beaches and nature help in this process and hence Goa is known as a hub for spirituality and healing. You'll find healers and therapists from the world over practicing conventional and alternate forms of therapy in Goa. We need to showcase the gentler, cleaner side of Goa so that we can attract a more conscious crowd, people who take care of themselves and the environment.
