Planet Goa
|Volume 7 Issue 2
With the onset of the holiday season, the local and international travelers head to Goa, the land of sun, sand and sea, in search of a laid back and refreshing break. Goa's biggest draw, is undoubtedly, its uninterrupted string of picturesque beaches. There is no better way to explore this gorgeous coastal marvel, than on a set of two wheels. Zoom your way through the idyllic by-lanes, scenic beaches, spectacular views and exotic sunsets and discover Goa like never before....
TRAVERSING through the beautiful beach stretch of North Goa on a motorbike can be an extraordinary journey of wonderful discoveries and interesting experiences. For the adventure lovers, we offer a beautiful biking trail to uncover the secrets of the untouched northern belt of North Goa. Perched on a hilltop, far up north, adjoining the Maharashtra border, stands the magnificent Tiracol Fort, steeped in history. The 17th century fort built by Maharaja Khem Sawant Bhonsle, the king of Sawantwadi, was surrendered to the Portuguese after a fierce battle. It is accessible by a short ferry ride across the Tiracol river, from Querim, 42kms north of Panjim. The fort boasts of kaleidoscopic views of the Querim beach and the mouth of the Tiracol river as it silently merges with the Arabian sea. Though now it is converted into a heritage hotel, the visitors are allowed access to the fort. The fort also houses the quaint St Andrew Church and statue, Al Fresco garden cafe, Tavern restaurant and a lounge bar, which is open for the visitors and the resident guests.
