The Galaxy A51 is a sleek, elegant and powerful mobile device that does everything you’d want from a mid-range smartphone

Straight Out Of Area 51

What’s amazing about the Samsung Galaxy A51 is just how much value it squeezes into its package. For the price of Samsung’s latest mid-range phone you get an awful lot of bang for your buck. With a large display, measuring in at 6.5in, a chunky octa-core CPU and a Mali-G72 MP3, the A51 is deceptively powerful for its relatively cheap price tag.

Beyond the raw power squashed into the sleek body, the A51 is fast and snappy even when juggling multiple ‘heavy use’ apps. With a variable 4GB or 6GB of RAM, it’s a speedy machine that never lagged or stalled while in use.

Yet, as expected from a midrange phone, corners had to be cut. Where it’s most obvious is the camera which is...serviceable. It’s not a bad camera, per se, but it’s certainly not as good as Samsung’s pricier models. There is a whole bundle of lenses attached to the back, including a 48MP primary, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro lens and a 5MP depth sensor.

Quantity seems to trump quality in this case as the A51 battles with moving subjects, subpar lighting and the HDR often causes severe wash-out in bright environments. Still, there’s a night mode in the mix and the macro cameras do an excellent job at catching finer details at very close ranges.
