The International Cricket Council (ICC) is understandably euphoric about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and it should be. After attempting to sideline the fifty overs format for the convenience of Twenty20, the numbers give them hope that the once golden goose is not altogether dead.

Early last week, the ICC came up with figures that validate the fact that there is a huge appetite and viewership for the one-day internationals, particularly in the form of the ICC Cricket World Cup. It is poignant to point this out as South Africa are in India, playing three Twenty20 internationals followed by Test cricket, forgoing the one-day internationals for this tour with an eye on next year’s Twenty20 World Cup while now heading into the ICC World Test championship.
