Rajasthan Royals have perhaps had the most topsy-turvy ride in the Indian Premier League (IPL). From being crowned champi-ons in the inaugural edition in 2008, when no one expected them to win, to finishing seventh last season despite having a reasonably strong side, Rajasthan have seen it all.

After winning the contest in 2008, they did not make the playoffs for the next four years, finishing 6th in 2009 and 2011 and 7th in 2010 and 2012. Rajasthan broke the lean spell by making the play-offs in 2013, and again in 2015 and 2018, but failed to make the finals on each occasion. Their journey was also hampered by the two-year ban. Here’s a closer look at RR’s prospects this year.

STRENGTHS: IMPRESSIVE LINE-UP PF OVERSEAS BATSMEN

Rajasthan have some royal batting talent in their midst when it comes to overseas players. They will be led by Steve Smith, who is match-winner in every format of the sport. Smith’s mere presence out in the middle can inspire the team. The former Aussie skipper rediscovered his tremendous form immediately after returning from the ball-tampering ban and hasn’t looked back since.
