IN FOOTBALL, and sport in general, the future can sometimes be an uncertain and daunting perspective.

In those circumstances, strong leadership is crucial, which is why the news that Scott Brown has signed a two-year contract extension with Celtic comes as a huge boost in the club’s pursuit of more silverware.

The Celtic captain’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season, and with only four months remaining in the current campaign, a Hoops side without ‘Broony’ looked like a possibility. However, those fears were allayed last week when he turned up at Paradise after training to pen his new deal.

And in an exclusive interview with Celtic View, Brown discussed his decision to remain a Celt until 2021.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he admitted. “Peter Lawwell, the gaffer and I get on really well, we’ve had a lot of chats over the past few months, and eventually we all decided that this was definitely the best deal for everyone.

“I love the club, I love playing in front of 60,000 fans, I love winning games and winning trophies. That’s why I came here – it’s so long ago now – and I enjoy every single moment of it, from training every day at Lennoxtown to playing in front of our fans. The main thing is for me to stay and try to win as many more leagues and cups as I possibly can.”
