For some diehards, this race is still the Giro del Trentino, a four-day Giro d’Italia prep event that ventured into some of the most testing terrain in the Dolomites to find its champion.

In 2015, that event merged with the Trofeo Melinda one-day race that also took place in the Trentino region, and two years later it was rebranded the Tour of the Alps.
