Dumoulin announces retirement, aims at Oz

Tom Dumoulin will put everything into one last tilt at a World Championship time trial title before calling time on his career at the end of the season, aged 31.

The mercurial Dutchman, who rides for Jumbo-Visma, made the announcement on social media last week, saying he was no longer getting a sustainable return on the “100 per cent dedication” effort he was giving the sport. He will carry on till the end of the season, before embarking on what he called “a new and unknown path”.
