Malcolm Elliott’s time to shine as Peter Keen’s profile grows

Hot on the heels of the Tour de France, this was the second of eight editions of the Kellogg’s Tour of Britain. It ran as the professional national tour, while the springtime Milk Race became a pro-am event.

Malcolm Elliott won the 1.7-mile prologue in Newcastle upon Tyne and held the leader’s yellow jersey from there on in. Riding for Fagor, and enjoying the form gained from recently completing his second Tour de France, Elliott benefited from having super domestique Sean Yates and world champion Stephen Roche riding for him.
