Inside Out - Photographix India
Asian Photography
|May 2021
A homegrown, well-known name in the architectural and interior photography circles of the country, Photographix India (PHX India) is headed by founder Sebastian Zachariah along with fellow partner and architect, Ira Gosalia.
Although PHX India started off solely as a photography studio, under the care of the founding team, it has now evolved into an imaging services company offering not only photography, but also videography, styling, and digital media expertise for professionals in the architecture and interior design field. With their eye for quality and unique perspective, PHX India has made its own mark in this ever-changing, ever-growing field. We talked to Sebastian and Ira about all things architecture, interiors and photography. Excerpts:
How was the idea of Photographix conceptualised?
SZ: Moving on from one profession to another every 2-3 years finally took a break when I decided to try my POV in photography and architectural photography was decided upon because the payments by architects (my clients) were usually on time. True story! As I was toying with the idea of going professional - the norm was to print a business card that says Sebastian Zachariah Photography. Well, it was no different for me. Couple of years later I realised that this idea is very myopic and very limited in its scope and I had a larger world view about the business of photography that I wanted to indulge in. It was then that I change the name of the firm to Photographix (Graphix was included because I was a graphic designer before I completely moved into photography and thought I will always find a way to do both and they do go well together!).

Your work has been featured in numerous publications. Could you tell us about Photographix’s journey of gaining this level of recognition?

The Rise of Street Couture Photography
Street couture photography has taken over fashion culture in a way few trends have before. It blends high fashion with real world grit, turning sidewalks into runways and everyday people into style subjects. This shift did not happen overnight. It grew from a mix of social media influence, shifting brand priorities, and a global appetite for authenticity. What used to be a niche style is now a major force shaping how fashion is captured, consumed, and imagined.
