November 2019

Nikon had already launched two cameras in the mirrorless category with the third (Nikon Z50) launched recently. With this launch it is clear that moving forward Nikon is going to focus a lot on the mirrorless category considering there haven’t been any DSLR launched this year from the brand. Bhavya Desai spoke to Sajjan Kumar, Managing Director, Nikon India about the future and what the consumers should expect from Nikon.

‘India Is A Progressive Market'

Where is the Indian imaging industry at currently? Some brands are doing exceedingly well while others are just getting by?

The imaging industry is in an interesting phase right now, with the rising penetration of internet in India and social media platforms taking the world by storm, photography is gaining momentum among enthusiasts. People are constantly engaged with each other online and are increasingly sharing their lives through photographs and videos, which have become an extension of their being.

However, the industry continues to be in a challenging phase for the point and shoot cameras, but there is a surge in demand for high zoom cameras. For entry level DSLRs, the sales trend will be clear post the festivities.

On the contrary sales for mid-to-high range cameras have increased with growing interest of consumers for high quality still and video output. The on-going festive season will give more clarity on the sales and product purchase trends. Though, first half of this year was not very promising due to the economic slowdown, hence resulting in lower consumer spirits, the sales was affected across all industries. We are hopeful, with the technology and end benefits we are offering to our consumers, the scenario will improve.

With the third launch in the mirrorless category how are the products doing and what are the expectations from the segment for the years to come?

The Rise of Street Couture Photography

Street couture photography has taken over fashion culture in a way few trends have before. It blends high fashion with real world grit, turning sidewalks into runways and everyday people into style subjects. This shift did not happen overnight. It grew from a mix of social media influence, shifting brand priorities, and a global appetite for authenticity. What used to be a niche style is now a major force shaping how fashion is captured, consumed, and imagined.
