Fine Art Is Creating Work For Myself

For many a childhood dream doesn’t often turn into reality, but Vickram Bawa is surely an exception to this rule. From an entrepreneur turned artist he has come a long way and is one of the most popular and noted photographers in the country today. Over the years we’ve spoken to him on many occasions but this month we are focussing on his series of artistic nudes. Excerpts:

How did you get interested in photography? Do you have an educational artistic background?

Photography was a passion followed by my mom n dad and I inherited it from them. My artistic background was mostly seeing their images while growing up. One day I was studying, the next day I was so fascinated with photography, all I wanted to be, was a photographer in life. I was on an entrepreneurial path and learned everything myself for almost six years before I could turn to my calling and go professional.

From the Advertising and Fashion Industry, how different is Fine Art Photography and what made you explore this genre?

Well, the dedication required is the same. In fine art, you give yourself projects and themes. There is no brief coming from a client and it is all coming from the heart. You are following your thoughts, beliefs, ideas of exploring new facets of yourself, society and creating art that essay’s those in various forms. And that is what excites me for creating work for myself.

What are you thinking when you are looking through your photographer’s eye for that unique shot?
