The Cape Of Fatherhood
Parents World
|Issue 69
We shine the spotlight on fathers, the unsung heroes that walk amongst us.
-
When it comes to parenting, one thing always seems to stand out: your child’s first hero always seems to be his father. There are a number of reasons why the father is a child’s first hero – he’s the first real role model they see in their lives; one who goes to work and supports the family in the day and comes home for them at night. This constant contact between father and child can herald in feelings of love and heroism. For many little boys, their father is their first hero and for many little girls, he’s their first love. This makes having a stable and consistent father figure an important aspect to young children’s lives, cultivating an image of the ideal man both to be and to be with later in life.
The role of fathers and their importance to their child’s life is something that has been studied by numerous psychiatric experts, with all research leading to the same results: the presence of a father denotes the likelihood of the child making better and healthier life choices. Children with a present father are also more confident when it comes to exploring their surroundings as well as being more likely to do well in school. There’s no doubt that fatherhood has a whole array of benefits to the child and having a father who is present only has benefits.
