India's youngest Super Chef
Parent Circle
|November 2016
Be prepared for a surprise - this little one is India’s youngest chef and an international celebrity. While this prodigy’s father talks to ParentCircle about his son’s love for cooking and his amazing success at it, we have our super chef churning out some easy-to-make and exciting recipes.
Six-year-old Nihal Raj, better known as Kicha, is the new celebrity chef on the block. The youngest person to sell a video to Facebook and the youngest Indian to have appeared on the popular The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kicha is now making waves with his own Youtube channel - KichaTube HD. Kicha’s father Rajagopal V Krishnan, an advertising professional, tells us all about this little star.
Q From helping out Mom in the kitchen, to becoming the youngest to sell a video on Facebook and now, a guest on the world-famous American television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show… How did it all come about?
Once, when Kicha was five years old I shot a video of him making ice popsicles and uploaded it on Youtube. When it received good reviews from friends, I continued uploading more videos. One fine day, I got a mail from Facebook asking for non-exclusive rights to one of the videos (the mango ice cream recipe) for commercial use, for their internal promotional purpose. Kicha got paid for this and became popular overnight as the youngest person to sell a video to Facebook. Soon after that, we got a mail from the producers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Both opportunities came our way purely by chance. We never contacted anyone on our own for it.
Q How was the experience at The Ellen DeGeneres Show?
It was a wonderful experience. My son met Ellen for the first time on stage. There were no rehearsals and everything was spontaneous. Kicha did not have any stage fear. All he knew was that he needed to communicate the recipe to the audience. So, during the show, he was more focussed on what he was making than the conversation.
