Two Cops Shunted Out Over Suicide Bid Of Rape Victim

THE Uttar Pradesh Police department on Tuesday suspended two personnel posted in Varanasi in connection with the self-immolation bid by a complainant in a rape case and her friend outside the Supreme Court on Monday.

The suspended officials have been identified Cantonment police station Inspector Rakesh Singh and Sub-Inspector Girijashanker Yadav. The rape case pertains to Bahujan Samaj Party MP from Ghosi in Mau, Atul Rai, who is the main accused in the case and is in jail.

The woman and her companion, who had suffered severe burns in the immolation bid, had accused the police of harassing them at the behest of the jailed MP by implicating them in a forgery case.
