Fireworks ban risks more kids being hurt

A campaigning mum whose son was scarred for life by firework fear there will be a spate of injuries this year after public displays were canceled.

Amy McCabe’s son Ben was just four when a stray rocket from a display near his home in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, flew inside his jacket and exploded on his chest.

Ben, now 13, suffered third-degree burns to his chest, neck, right arm, and behind his left ear.

Amy has backed calls for a ban on the public sale of fireworks so no one else has to go through the agony her son suffered.

This year many public displays have been canceled due to coronavirus restrictions.

Amy, 45, fears the move will put more people at risk as they buy fireworks for private displays at home.

The dental technician said: “More people than normal will buy fireworks for their own use this year.

“I am fearful this means there will be many more accidents. I’m worried that more children like Ben will be injured.
