Thatcher's fears for Falkands parade

DOWNING Street feared the Falklands victory parade in London 40 years ago could be attacked by renegade Argentines in revenge for their defeat in the 1982 war, declassified papers have revealed.

The parade, attended by Margaret Thatcher, saw more than 1,200 military veterans of the Falklands campaign march through London, with an estimated crowd of 300,000 linings the route.

It was held on October 12, 1982, to celebrate the liberation of the Falkland Islands from Argentine occupation four months earlier.

However, No10 raised concerns that Argentine extremists might try to disrupt or even mount an attack.
