Billy: I hit my son when he was a child and it spoiled something between us

SIR BILLY Connolly has told of his deep regret over once hitting his son and changing their relationship – saying no parent should physically punish a child.

The stand-up legend said physical punishment “doesn’t work” and “the child will hate you” because of it.

Connolly, speaking in a TV interview available from Thursday, was talking about discipline and his five children, and replying to a suggestion that such punishment doesn’t work. He said: “It doesn’t achieve a great deal – slapping certainly doesn’t.
