Key GST Council Meeting Likely to Discuss Rate Cuts

With the government desperate to reverse the prevailing acute slowdown trend in the economy, the GST council meet on September 20 is all set to focus on a slew of reduction in levies.
India Today TV has accessed the agenda for the GST council meet which lists discussion on reduction in GST rates on sectors with high consumer interface or high state of distress due to fall in demand and sales.
Friday’s GST Council meeting as per the agenda paper may take up automobiles, hotels, biscuits, match sticks and outdoor catering segments for resetting the GST rates applicable. However, the signal emerging from the council is that all listed items may not witness reduced GST rates due to complexities involved.
