Tesco ad: if anyone needs Covid pass, Santa does

WHEN the Tesco PR team spotted #boycottTescos was the top trend on Twitter this morning, I imagine they spluttered into their corn flakes. What could possibly have prompted such a wave of outrage?
Naturally it was their 2021 Christmas advert, which premiered last night and featured a two-second shot of Santa — with a Covid pass.
It quickly became the most complained about advert this year — which is saying something — but perhaps only to be expected. British supermarket adverts have for some reason become the latest frontier in the culture wars.
