Calm returns amid fresh hope on Ukraine crisis
Evening Standard
|February 15, 2022
HOPEFUL signs that tensions on the Ukraine border may be easing brought relief for investors today as calm returned to markets after Monday’s risk-averse session.
MARKET ROUND-UP
Amid reports that some Russian troops have returned to their bases, oil prices retreated from a seven-year high above $96 a barrel and shares across Europe also moved higher.
The FTSE 100 index gained 0.6% or 43.33 points to 7574.92, with British Airways owner IAG at the forefront of the rebound after rising 4% or 6.24p to 171.04p. Russian steel producer Evraz also recouped some of yesterday’s big losses by lifting 12p to 327.5p.
