Inverdale's demand for grassroots shake-up

JOHN Inverdale has called for a root and branch review of how community rugby operates amid the wreckage of the coronavirus crisis.
Star broadcaster and Esher deputy president Inverdale, who reveals his club are set to lose £160,000 during the current lockdown, is due to succeed long-serving Norman Robertson as the National League’s representative on the RFU Council – at a time when rugby faces its greatest challenge.
Salary caps, the relationships between professional and semi-professional leagues below the Premiership and how clubs go about improving facilities and attracting new supporters must all be up for discussion, insists the TV presenter.
Inverdale told The Rugby Paper: “There are salary caps of £280,000 in National One and £180,000 in National Two but for one season only there is an argument for reducing those, although you risk widening the gap between National One and the Championship.
