REINVENTING himself as a super-sub has worked wonders for Shaun Miller after shrugging off injury to play a major part in Bolton’s push for promotion.

MILLER'S TIMING IT RIGHT

A rollercoaster campaign has kept Miller on the sidelines with a recurring thigh problem but two goals in a week in late February – leading to wins against Southend and Barrow – ensured the 33-year-old is not a forgotten man.

Battling with last year’s League Two top scorer Eoin Doyle for a place in the Trotters’ starting line-up was always going to be a tough task for the summer signing from Morecambe.

And while 32-year-old Doyle entered the weekend with 13 goals to his name, it’s all about the magical 100 for Miller, whose winner against the Shrimpers brought up a career century.

Great

“I knew I was close, so to get injured, come back, and then get injured again made it seem a lifetime away,” said the striker, who has more goals than starts in 2020-21.

“But to get the 100th and get the monkey off my back, then to crack on and get another one soon after was a great feeling.
