The very beginning of the year saw the third edition of Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati. After successfully hosting the event, Guwahati is all set to host the first ever U -17 Women World Cup 2020 from November, this year.
It was during the month of November 2019 when FIFA officials visited Guwahati to inspect Sarusajai’s Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women World Cup , 2020.
The local Organising Committee Tournament Director Roma Khanna in an interaction said to the media, “this world cup is going to be different, we have packaged it differently.”
Meanwhile Footballers from different parts of Northeast expressed happiness at the opportunity coming up for the young women of the region.
Bala Devi, who made history by becoming the first Indian woman footballer to be signed by Rangers FC, has been signed by the Scottish club for a contract of 18 months. The 29-year-old exuberated confidence on the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women World Cup 2020. “I am very happy that Guwahati- the gateway to the other states of Northeast India, will get the opportunity to host the matches of the U-17 FIFA world cup. This will give the young sports enthusiasts of the region a chance to watch a high level competition and should further the interest of the youth of the North East in Football,” says Bala.
