Town responds to unfunded mandate to protect groundwater
Stonington—The new salt shed required by the state is finished at a cost of 13 percent under budget, or $349,262, though the town has set aside another $10,000 to build a retaining wall, Town Manager Kathleen Billings said February 17 at a selectmen’s meeting.
The town budgeted $400,000 for the project, which Billings described as an unfunded mandate from the state.
