New Bi-lingual Gateway Sign Targeted Just 48 Hours After Being Erected
County Derry Post
|2 January 2018
A NEWLY erected bi-lingual sign belonging to the Mid Ulster District Council was vandalised within 48 hours of it being put up, it has been claimed.
The sign, which was erected at Glenone Bridge near Portglenone, welcomes visitors to the Mid Ulster District in both Irish and English.
This sign was one of 18 gateway signs which were erected throughout the Mid Ulster area just before Christmas.
But within 48 hours of it being erected, vandals, using black paint, had daubed out the Irish wording Failte go Lár Uladh.
The spray has since been removed and the sign restored to its original form.
However, local Sinn Féin councillor, Sean McPeake has expressed his disappointment and branded those responsible ‘mindless bigots’.
