Q: What does Robert Saleh bring to the table as a coach?

A: Coach Saleh is an exceptional teacher, motivator and communicator. He has earned every opportunity he has gotten and made the most of each of them. Coach Saleh’s energy, knowledge and focus are contagious and will serve our team well as we continue to develop our culture, our foundation, and move this organization in the right direction.

Q: What made Saleh emerge as the top candidate?

A: We really canvassed the NFL and what kept coming back time and time again was what a great candidate Coach Saleh was. So when we talk about our criteria, and what we are looking for in a head coach, he checked all those boxes; the integrity, the passion, the ability to connect. Meeting him confirmed what everybody said about him.

Q: What stood out in Robert’s interviews with the team?

A: We were really impressed with his presence, his vision, what he wanted the identity of the team to look like, and his plan for the exact path to get there.

He wants to play fast, physical football. I like a lot of his mantras like, “All gas, no brake.”

(Marcus Maye) can do it all. I would feel comfortable with him (at free or strong safety). He’s a guy that, to me, he can play deep, he can play the half field, he can play the middle third, he can do that and you feel comfortable with it. I think he’s got range, speed and athleticism. I think he’s got ball skills and instincts to be a deep safety. But I think he’s got enough size and girth and want-to and courage to play in the box. It’ll be fun to utilize all the things that he does. He can cover tight ends; he can cover some of the wide receivers in this league.

Aside from adding as many good players as possible to help the Jets improve, coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas are trying to turn over every stone to find extra ways to give their team a winning edge, and two examples of this were announced over the course of the offseason, with the additions of a game management coach (Matt Burke) and the installation of an Athletic Care and Performance Department.
