Two large cloths hang loftily from the ceiling in the middle of The Link car park in Makati City. Visitors from around the globe scurry to stitch their own designs unto the mammoth art piece displayed at Art Fair Philippines. Called A Stitch in Time, this was David Medalla’s 2019 iteration of his signature installation. Conceptualised as far back as 1968, the participatory art piece began with a couple exchanging handkerchiefs and sewing whatever they wanted on them. This was art through Medalla’s eyes—living and always evolving.
