The new OnePlus phone is fast, good looking and affordable
The smartphone market in India is fierce than ever but if there’s one company that stands out from the rest when it comes to launching a flagship phone at an aggressive price, it has to be OnePlus. While we won’t exactly categorise its latest OnePlus 6 smartphone as affordable, we would certainly say that it hits the sweet spot at offering the best attainable hardware at the best price. But does it translate to the best possible performance in a smartphone as well? We find out.
DESIGN
Glass has been the preferred material of choice for a majority of the flagship phones of late and OnePlus 6 is no different. The phone has a beautiful glass design on the front and back, which is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 to safeguard it from accidental drops and scratches. The curvy back and smooth-rounded corners add to the phone’s premium look and feel. In terms of physical keys and ports, the alert slider has been shifted to the other side and now resides just above the power button on the right-hand side. The volume buttons are on the left whereas the USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack, and speaker grille are at the bottom. The fingerprint sensor with the dual cameras are at the back and the notch around the display houses a few sensors, LED notification light and the front-facing camera.
The OnePlus 6 also comes with a water-resistant body. OnePlus does not claim any Ingress Protection rating but says there’s a foam layered between the screen and the battery cover to prevent water from seeping in. We guess it’s safe to say it can grapple with Mumbai’s crazy monsoon!
