It has maintained its rich heritage despite its small number of followers in the large Indian nation. Its principles focus on non-violence, non-absolutism, non-possessiveness and the cyclical nature of the universe. Jains worship in temples whose unique architecture portrays the tenets of its religion, by embodying the splendour and glory of austerity in intricately sculpted, usually marble shrines. Photographer Varun Joshi embarked on an 11-month journey, travelling throughout India, to capture the beauty of this rich religion, documenting the ancient temples and other cultural artifacts in an illuminating coffee table book.
