Postpartum Doula Support
Mums and Tots
|Issue 31 - Summer 2019
What is a Postpartum Doula?
The word doula comes from the Greek. It means ‘woman’s caregiver.’ A postpartum doula offers emotional, practical and informational support to families following the birth of a baby.
-
Our role is to mother the new mother, being there with her to optimise her rest and recovery, to provide evidence-based information and to help her ease into her new role as Mama. We do this by listening, hearing, acknowledging, and holding space for open conversations around motherhood, and how the expectation of the postpartum period may be quite different from the reality.
Community Doulas is a collaborative of three passionate Postpartum Doulas. We came together to better support and nurture new parents on your journey, whilst also supporting each other. Sandy, Ceara and Eleanor are all Dona International trained Postpartum Doulas and are members of the Doula Association of Ireland.
What exactly does a Postpartum Doula do?
