Despite getting her on-screen start at the age of nine, Naomie Harris’ rise to stardom feels almost instant. But that’s our fault, not hers. While we’ve only just started to notice her quietly commanding presence in film and faultless red-carpet confidence, the 39-year-old’s big break actually came back in 2002, in Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic 28 Days Later. Later, she appeared in After The Sunset, Pirates Of The Caribbean, the Bond films Skyfall and Spectre (as Eve Moneypenny, no less) and took a haunting turn as Winnie Mandela in 2013’s Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

The British actress clearly favours strong female characters, and in this month’s Our Kind Of Traitor – a spy thriller adapted from John le Carré’s novel of the same name – she plays a lawyer who, with her university lecturer partner, becomes embroiled in a Russian money launderer’s attempt to defect to the UK.
