She’s created her booming fitness empire, sweat, amassing 12m Instagram followers along the way, and now Kayla itsines, 27, is primed for her most exciting project yet: motherhood.
“I SUSPECTED I WAS PREGNANT before any test confirmed it. When you’re a trainer and you eat well, you have such a high level of energy all the time – I could literally jump out of bed each morning. But then, suddenly I couldn’t. I struggled to do a 30-minute walk and couldn’t get through a training session. I knew something was different. Finally, when I got the official news from the doctor, I was so happy.
I was very sick for 16 weeks. Airplanes made me feel really ill, so I basically stopped all travel. I rested a lot, I drank a lot of water, I ate a lot of carbs. I didn’t have many cravings, but I stopped liking certain things; grilled fish, for example, I normally love, but I couldn’t stomach it. Despite nausea, pregnancy has definitely made me appreciate my body that much more and I have an even deeper level of respect for what women go through.”
